Angle between pattern members has a wrong witness reference position from the patterned feature geometry in Creo Parametric

Modified: 26-Oct-2022

Applies To

  • Creo Parametric 7.0.0.0 to 7.0.7.0
  • For axis patterns, the old method for placing the angle spacing dimension used the lead member’s geometry outline. This outline was calculated using the part’s default coordinate system
  • In specific situations where the lead pattern member’s outline was not symmetrical to the part’s CSYS, the dimension witness line did not pass through the expected center of the pattern member. As long as the option ‘Follow axis rotation’ was enabled (on by default), the pattern members’ geometry was accurately placed (just the dimension witness line could appear slightly offset center)
  • Three examples using previous calculation method (refer to image below):
    • Lead member is not symmetrical to the CSYS (it is rotated 55 degrees; 45 degrees would symmetrical). Follow axis rotation is enabled so pattern member location is correct, but dimension witness line was slightly offset
    • Lead member is symmetrical to CSYS. Pattern member location and dimension witness line are correct
    • Lead member is not symmetrical to CSYS (it is rotated 55 degrees) however, the lead member’s outline is symmetrical to the CSYS hence the pattern member location and dimension witness line are correct.
  • The fix was made to correct the default origin of lead member in case of all types of Transformation Pattern, since the calculation of default origin is same across all Pattern types.

Description

  • Angle between pattern members has a wrong witness reference position from the patterned feature geometry
  • Axis pattern dimension is slightly rotated
