Unable to address an Excel document in a Spanish operating system

Modified: 02-Nov-2020

Applies To

  • Kepware Server (formerly KEPServerEX) 5.19.467.0 to 6.8
  • ThingWorx Kepware Server (legacy) 8.0 to 8.4

Description

Problem : The same project that utilizes the DDE Client driver on an English operating system does not function on a Spanish operating system. Behavior : The DDE Client driver uses standard DDE addressing. A typical address for an Excel document is "Excel|Sheet3!R1C1" where "Excel" is the DDE Service Name, "Sheet3" is the Topic Name, and "R1C1" is the Item Name. "R" represents the row and "C" represents the column. However, the item name on an Excel document on a Spanish operating system uses Fila/Columna in place of Row/Column. Examples : English: Excel|Output!R1C1 Spanish: Excel|Output!F1C1 Note : Changing the language settings on the operating system or Excel does not correct the behavior.
